Slides Template - Creating/Editing Slide Layouts & Template Styles

I created a new Slides template, but I’m still only seeing the default stock slides in the “New slide” dropdown. I’m not sure how to remove those and add my own custom slide layouts.

I’m also unclear on how to create or edit a template style, including setting custom colors and text styles. The deck defaults to the “Light Slides” style, but I don’t see any options to edit or add a new template style.

I’m on a company plan and appear to have full access to Figma Slides.

Any help appreciated.

+1 editing template styles generally feels quite unintuitive

Agree – super confusing!

Try publishing your template. This seems to sanitize the file, keeping only the slides you’ve made and the styles within those slides.

A hack I’ve found useful is to make a totally vanilla “starter” template this way. Publish one blank slide, remove all the styles and colors and publish it as a blank starter.

Then, you can dupe that as a starting point for making new templates, without having to wrestle with all the default Figma preset styles and slides. Why this isn’t an option by default is beyond me.
