“We’re on the Professional plan, but when using the Figma MCP Server we get: ‘Error fetching file: Figma API rate limit hit (429). Retry after 259743 seconds. Your Figma seat type (Viewer or Collaborator) has a lower API rate limit. Your starter plan has limited API access.’

Hey @Dumadu AI Studios ! Thanks for sharing the error. I can see why this is confusing if you're on a Professional plan. One thing worth noting is that Figma's API rate limits depend on both your seat type and the plan of the team that owns the file you're accessing. So even if you have a Full seat on a Professional plan, if the file lives in a Starter team, Starter-level API limits will apply. Similarly, Viewer and Collaborator seats have lower API rate limits than Full or Dev seats.

Could you please double check the following?

  • Is the file you're accessing via MCP stored in a Professional team, or is it in a Starter team (or Drafts)?

  • Are you using a Full or Dev seat, rather than a Viewer or Collaborator seat?

If the file is in a Starter team, moving or duplicating it into your Professional team should apply the higher Professional plan limits. If the user accessing it has a Viewer or Collaborator seat, upgrading to a Full or Dev seat will also provide higher API limits. You can find more information about MCP rate limits here: https://developers.figma.com/docs/figma-mcp-server/rate-limits-access/

If you've confirmed the file is in a Professional team and you're using a Full or Dev seat but are still seeing this error, please submit a bug report via the Support Hub / Type “Report a bug” / Click Start a chat and select Enter and follow the prompts. Our team can investigate your specific setup. When you do, please include the file link and the full error message. Thank you!
