Question about Figma Text and Color Styles

Hi everyone!

We are new to Figma using Styles and we don’t know really well how they work. Is there any way we can save (import/export) text and color styles as a library? Something like Photoshop has?

Are text and color styles stored in each of the Figma Files? So if we want to copy some styles, we need to duplicate the Figma file that has those styles and start from there?

Thanks a lot!!

Hi @OdinT, thanks for reaching out!

I’m Denise from the Community team at Figma. Welcome and great questions! Styles (text, color, etc.) live in the file where you create them. To reuse them elsewhere, you'd normally publish that file as a library, which other files can then pull from; no duplicating needed, and updates push out automatically.

Please note that publishing libraries is a paid-plan feature, so if you’re on our Starter plan that option isn't available to you. In the meantime, here are two easy temporary solutions:

  • Copy/paste layers with the style applied into another file; Figma will offer to bring the style along.
  • Recreate the style manually, if there’s just a few that you’d like to reuse.

Hope this helps!
