I was using Figma Sites from a first date was release at Figma Beta. But I really don’t known how to prototype “Open Overlay” just like Figma Design was like. Any one known how to work-around with that.
I was copy my design with prototype work-fine from Figma Design, but still can't running with Figma Sites.
And when I publish, I receive this message “Interactions · Unsupported action"
Really annoying that they bring many new interactions, but somehow forget little trigger but useful like “Open Overlay"

Hi @Duong_Anh
Thanks for your feedback! I completely understand your frustration when certain features aren't available in Sites. We might have a workaround for what you're trying to do.
Could you share a bit more about the specific interaction you're hoping to achieve? Are you looking to create something like a hamburger menu with open and closed states, where clicking would toggle between different variants?
If you can give me more details about your use case, I might be able to suggest or explore an alternative approach that works within the current limitations.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi @y_toku,
Really thank you for get in touch. I was looking for achieve simple interaction like hover/click header navigation menu for my website design. and then popup a dialog show-up sub menu.
Like when I hover “Products" a dialog open overlay on screen.
Hi @Duong_Anh
Thanks for clarifying what you're trying to do! I completely understand your frustration about not being able to use overlays for this purpose. Unfortunately, overlays aren't supported in Sites yet, but I think I have a workaround that might help you achieve a similar effect.
In short, you'll need to create a variant set with two states - open and closed. The closed state should be a duplicate of the open state, but with the content clipped off using the "clip content" option. I've put together a quick video demonstration to show you how this works:
I hope this approach works for what you're trying to accomplish! Let me know if you need any clarification!
Thanks,
Toku
Thank you so much @y_toku
Maybe i'll using this for current state. I hope Figma Sites will support more interaction and trigger on future.
Hey @Duong_Anh !
I was facing the same issue while trying to get overlays working in Figma Sites. Unfortunately, there’s currently no official support for the “Open Overlay” interaction like we have in regular Figma Design files.
What worked for me is a little hack: I created two states of the component (for example, with and without the popup/dropdown) and used an “On Click → Change to” interaction between them. This way, it simulates the popup behavior. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done for now.
You can see the attachment for a better idea.
Hopefully, Figma adds proper overlay support to Sites soon — seems like a pretty common need!
