Hey @Chris45, sorry for the trouble and confusion!
Just to make sure I’m understanding correctly, was this a team or project that was recently transferred to you?
In Figma, the term owner is given to the person who created the team or project. But as a team admin, you have the same permission level as an owner. So, provided you are the admin on the team or project, there is no need to become the owner, because as an admin you should be able to remove them or they can leave the team after transferring ownership.
Hi @dvaliao
I created a team on our side that they transferred a project into. The intent was that I would ultimately turn ownership over to another full-seat user in our instance but was unable to do so readily as the external contact was still set as owner (and viewer-restricted in our instance) in our instance. I wasn’t able to alter the ‘owner’ even though I am an admin and owner of the team. So gave them full-seat temporarily to alter this. Are you saying that if I removed them, then I would be able to change the owner? Or is there some other piece of the process I’m mucking up? Luckily this was only 15 Figma files but if it were numerous this would be tedious to have them go change each manually. (Bulk owner change?)
May be missing something but I think it would make sense when transferring, that whomever is receiving the files would be the new owner automatically.
Thanks for the additional info!
Did you and the user outside of your Org use this process?
Figma Learn - Help Center
Using this process, the original owner is usually kept the same, but the resources within the transferred team would be moved, unless the original owner also transferred their ownership to you. It seems like that may not be the case, because if they also transferred ownership or left the project and removed their ownership, you should be able to claim the team as the new owner.
Ok was able to figure this out…
Here’s the scenario: Accepted the transfer, and the external party came in showing as Owner on the project and files. As Admin, I was able to remove them at the project level and was then able to join the project as Owner. Simple, but maybe not so obvious 😀
@dvaliao Thanks for your help.
You’re welcome, @Chris45!
Glad to hear you were able to figure it out. 🙂
