Pixelated image when exporting

Hello

I have to export a lot of assets for a client, can be several thousands. I noticed that when exporting, some assets still have that pixelated rendering that looks like progressive JPG. I’m quite sure this is because when exporting, Figma hasn’t finished loading all the HighRed images. So I tried scrolling through all my images at more than 100% zoom and waited for Figma to load the complete image when it wasn’t. Did that through all my assets, launched export, and it still had that pixelation on some of them. I think by the time I had scrolled through all my images, Figma just decided to go back to low res for some of them, which is not very nice… Do you guys have any idea how I could resolve this?

Thanks

Hey Mark,
The assets altogether shouldn’t exceed 4096 pixels in either direction. If either the x or y dimensions exceed 4096, Figma will resize the entire object proportionally to keep it within this range. Hope this clarifies!

(Also for visibility, I check on our backend on Vincent2’s case, here the response from our support team: this behavior is expected — the reason for the pixelation is because you’re hitting the browser tab memory limit, causing some exports to be “cut short”. Exporting chunks is the solution here, as is splitting your file up so you’re not exporting too much at one time to begin with.

This is a browser limitation, similar to a memory file limit, and isn’t something that Figma can’t alter at this time. )

Thanks for the information! Yes, it should be. Still, it’s difficult to know the root cause without investigating your file. I’d recommend you to reach out directly to the support team so they can try to replicate: here (Please also mention the banner you want to export) Thank you!

I’ll do that then, thank you!

Hello,

New Figma user, just encountered this issue, you need to make sure the coordinates X,Y of your assets are integers (no decimals 250 not 250.5).

Hope it helps.

Hello,

I understand your frustration with the pixelation issue you’re experiencing when exporting assets from Figma. It can be quite frustrating when the quality of the images doesn’t meet expectations, especially when working on a large project for a client.

One suggestion I have is to try exporting the assets individually or in smaller batches rather than all at once. This way, Figma may have more time to load the high-resolution images properly without compromising quality. Additionally, double-checking your export settings to ensure that you’re exporting the images at the highest resolution possible may also help alleviate the issue.

Another option to consider is using alternative design tools or plugins that may offer more reliable export capabilities for high-resolution images.

In the meantime, if you’re in need of high-quality PNG images for your projects, I highly recommend checking out PNGsHub.com. It’s a fantastic resource for finding a wide variety of stunning images that can enhance your designs and ensure a professional finish.

Best of luck resolving the pixelation issue, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance!

Hello! I may have found a solution. I was trying to export a logo I made in Figma and it was pixelated. So, I went to zoom function, now located on top right side, after they moved it (grrr), and changed to 1x or 2x. Exported as PDF as recommended. Then went to Finder on Mac. and double-clicked to convert to PNG as recommended. Clicked on File and Export as png which revealed pixels at 65/per inch. I changed to 300, as recommended, and it worked. However, The circle the logo is in was slightly larger than the crop box. I may go back to Figma drawing board to fix this issue, but right now, and 2 hrs later, I can live with it.

I can confirm that the problem still exists.

The image quality when exporting is very low… 😐. Take a print and you will have a greater quality.

Commenting to bump this, as this issue seems to be completly ignored by Figma for years

Hey there – thanks for jumping in and sharing your thought! I totally get how frustrating this can feel, especially when it seems like the issue hasn’t moved forward.

Just to share a bit of context, if you haven’t seen my previous message— this behavior is linked to browser memory limits, which can impact large exports and cause things like pixelation or cutoffs. Since this is a browser-side limitation, it’s not something Figma can directly control at this time. However, exporting your work in smaller chunks or breaking up the file can help avoid this.

There are also a few tips that might help improve the quality of your exports:

  • Try exporting at 2x, 3x, or even 4x for clearer results — 4x often gives the sharpest image

  • Keep in mind that SVG and PNG formats don’t compress images like JPEG does, which can impact how crisp the image appears

  • If an image has been scaled inside Figma, it might look fine in the editor but appear blurry once exported — resizing it to its original dimensions before exporting can help

If the issue is still persisting, feel free to reach out to our support team through this form. They can take a closer look at your file (or the asset you try to export) and help us understand what’s happening in your specific case.

Thanks again for taking the time to flag this 🙏

Just in case someone is viewing the exported images in Mac’s Preview app, I wanted to add that this was the only issue for me, that Preview was displaying the images with pixelation when viewing in full size, but when opening with another image viewer it looked as it should for me!

I am sure this is not everyone’s problem but if you have only viewed it in Preview on Mac then it would be worth trying another Image Viewer to make sure that isn’t the problem!

EDIT: looking further into why that is it seems that Preview has some issues displaying images with lower PPI, and I am assuming the default (and only option?) in Figma is 72 PPI?
