Performance impact drop-shadows

Has some body experience, proof or an opinion on the performance impact on multiple drop-shadows?

Some in our team complain about slow file rendering. And we think one of the reasons are the drop-shadows. From web development I know that large shadows are slow to render. But is the same true for multiple stacked drop-shadows? The Designer working on the design system uses 4 shadow layers to get the perfect shadow.

Does someone has a performance test or performance analyses to see the impact of multiple shadows over a simple shadow layer? โ€” Maybe Figma can add similar to the Memory Usage, a performance Chart to see what takes up rendering time.

Hey Phillip,
Sorry to hear you are having issues with a slow performance in your file!
Hmm to be transparent, itโ€™s hard to identify the root cause without investigating with the file directly.

This usually also happened when the percentage of available memory is low.
Iโ€™d recommend you to reduce your memory usage: here are some tips that may be helpful on our guide
As reminder, Figma is browser-based, and every browser has its own active memory limit of ~2GB per browser tab.

If you are still experiencing this issue, I would suggest reaching out to the support team directly via this form for help: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Be sure to use your Figma account email, include links to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com so they can take a closer look. Thank you!
