Paste from Excel into Variable Collection?

There are several issues with the variable editing UI that I find really limiting, but in this instance I think its the most egregious.

I want to add maybe 30 rows across 9 variable modes in one variable collection, I’ve got the data in an excel sheet that I want to add on, but I can’t just..paste row by row?
Instead it looks like my options are:

  1. Upload my sheet as a new variable collection and rewire all components
  2. Manually type data into 270 cells

I’m wondering is there something I’ve missed here? Like is there a method or technique I am not aware of?

If you’re trying to paste from Excel into a Variable Collection in Figma, it can be a bit tricky since Figma doesn’t fully support direct structured pasting for variables yet. A common workaround is to clean your Excel data into a simple column format (like name/value pairs) and then paste it step by step, or use plugins to speed things up.

Some users also convert Excel data into JSON or CSV and import it through plugins for better accuracy. Hopefully, Figma improves this workflow soon—it would save a lot of time for bulk variable creation. isoftmarts
