Password not working on archived branch

Hi,

We have a password protected figma file with branches.

Some of those branches were for reference and not intended to merge back with main. We have archived them, but documentation still have a direct link to them.

Password is not working when using the direct link to the archived file.

Collaborators need to connect to main file and enter password there before opening the branch.

Is this the expected behavior or is this a bug?

Thank you.

Hi @MdB

I understand that the password isn’t working when using a direct link to an archived branch file.

I tested this on my end and observed the same behavior:

  • Set a password on the main file with branches.

    • Before archiving the branch, the password on the main file works correctly when accessing the branch via a direct link.

    • After archiving the branch, entering the same password shows a “Please enter a valid password” error message.

After checking internally, it looks like this behavior is expected. It seems that Figma filters out non-active files when validating passwords, which is why the password doesn’t work for archived branches.

As an alternative solution, you can:

  1. Access the archived branch via the main file (as you mentioned).

  2. Or, restore the archived branch if you need direct access.

Thanks,

MdB

Thanks @Junko3 .
This makes the password screen misleading for the users.

I’ll pass the information to my team.
