Orphaned Figma File After Removing Owner Access

Hi Figma Support,

I was collaborating on a file named "Prisoner App" (link below). I accidentally removed the person who originally owned the file, not realizing they were the owner.

Now, the file is no longer visible to either of us — it doesn't appear in Trash, Drafts, or Projects, and we can't access it via the link.

Here’s the file link:

Hi @Krithikashree ,

Unfortunately, for security and privacy reasons, we’re not able to resolve these types of requests here in the forum.

To clarify, in order to restore a file that was located within a deleted team, you'll need to restore the team it belonged to. Only the team owner can restore a deleted team.

I checked on our end and saw that you’ve already submitted a support request(#1463417) about this.

I’ve passed along the information you shared here to the specialist handling your case. Please continue the conversation with them via the ticket for any further updates.

Thanks!

Hi @Krithikashree ,

I looked into this and it appears that the file "Prisoner App" was deleted because the team it belonged to — "Please Take all the from here" — was deleted.

When a team is deleted, all files within it are also deleted. These files remain restorable for 28 days, after which they are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

In this case, it looks like the 28-day window has not passed yet, so the team (and files within it) may still be restorable. The team owner can restore it by clicking the “Restore team” button in the automated email sent at the time of deletion.

If they’re having trouble with the button, we recommend they try opening the email in an incognito browser window and logging into Figma with the email address associated with the team.

If the issue continues, the team owner can contact our support team directly via this form: Support request

That will allow our specialist to assist further.

Here are two Help Center articles that may also be helpful:

Thanks,
