Hello! I created a team project on an education plan linked to my school email. Since I just graduated, I will lose access to it soon but I have important projects on there that I don't want to loose. I already changed "ownership" of the project to my private email. But is that enough? Or do I need to get a paid plan to somehow transfer the files? I don’t quite understand where figma stores these files.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @O.lga

I understand you're concerned about keeping your important projects after your school email (and education plan) expires. Let me clarify what happens and how to manage your files.

When your education plan expires:

  • Your education team will automatically switch to a free Starter plan team.

    • This plan allows you to have 3 Design files, 3 FigJam files and 3 Slides files per team.

    • As long as your files are within these limits, your team stays active, and you can continue working on them.

    • Any files exceeding these limits you'll need to move to your Drafts to keep them accessible.

You can find more details on the Starter plan here: Figma plans and featuresStarter plan permissions

When you transfer project ownership, the new owner is assigned, but the project stays in its original team. It doesn't automatically move to the new owner's team.

So, we recommend updating your education account's email address to a personal one you'll always have access to, before your school email expires. This will ensure you can always log into your account.
Here's how to change your email: Manage email address or password

Thanks,

Thank you! I didn’t know that was possible so this helps a lot.
