Move Figma Make files into draft/project

I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but it sounds like you'd like to continue editing your design created in Figma Make — and ideally move it into a more flexible product like Figma Design?

If so, currently there isn’t a native way to open or edit a Figma Make file directly in Figma Design. That said, you can still make certain changes within Figma Make using the Point and Edit tool. You can’t move files directly from Figma Make to full Figma, so the best option is to use your Make designs as a reference and rebuild them in Figma to get full editing and prototyping features.

so… wait.. if you make something in “Figma Make” you can not place it in a project file? then what is the use for figma make? i made a nice card carousel and want to put it in FIgma sites … how does that work?

This really sticks, I made a nice design and I am stuck not being able to share the file, I will not recommend figma again to people if you can’t move from make to sharing the file within flutterflow.

Not sure if you folks are aware, I think I have a paid version of Figma Make. I have been just messing around with it so far, but at the top of the Figma Make screen there is a Publish and Share button. If I click Share, I can Click Copy Link. then go into the FIGMA Desktop app, again paid for by my company, and I can Paste. That drops the copied version of the Figma Make file into my layout. My example right now, is building a sortable and filterable data table, just the table itself, Share → Copy Link → Paste when I am in Figma Desktop and I get a “component” of the Figma Make file. If I make an update to the Figma Make file, it does not automatically update, so Copy and Paste again. It also does not “activate” inside a Prototype which is where this is landing at the moment. The prototype shows a “play button” click on that and the data becomes active and I have the ability to sort and filter the data in the prototype. Will be nice in the future to have the bugs worked out, but at least I can bring what Make generated back in. 

There is also a Copy Design button at the top in Figma Make, that will copy and allow the Paste to drop back in as well, but non-functional in my case.

This question was posted 11 months ago. Has anything changed with respect to being able to take a Figma Make file into Figma and edit the file? I am in this predicament now.   What is the workaround?
 

I saw a video on YouTube about how seamless it is to take the project in Figma Make and modify on the fly. I chose to create my prototype with this in mind, but I must have missed the memo which says it does not exist.  Frustrating!

Hey ​@Anne Savitsky-Blondin, I never did get an answer, so I could be missing something also, but not sure if this may help. From my MAKE file I can SHARE and COPY LINK and that will place a MAKE file, or at least the link to it in my Figma Design File. Cannot do anything to it other than PLAY it and run it back. Only really useful if you are making a “functional prototype” in Figma Design.

Next, just noticed this today, in the MAKE file in the Tool bar across the top, where your Profile icon is, then to the right is OPEN CONSOLE, then one more to the right is COPY DESIGN. That COPY DESIGN will being in the CURRENT PAGE in the MAKE file, as bits and pieces. Sadly none of them are still connected to Components, or references back to our Design Library. 

Now I also do not know what happens if the MAKE file was created by using the same design Library. There is a way to export out the design library into a format that MAKE can ingest, I would have to experiment but that may establish the connections between the code versions of components in MAKE and the components in Figma Design. Not that hopeful though. 

Do you happen to have a link or title to the video you saw? Would like to see what they are doing. If it was from Figma, probably just hyping up the options for someday, or you need the ultimate, polished, platinum tier of the application suite.

From what I've seen, there's no seamless way to turn a Figma Make prototype into a fully editable Figma design file yet. If the prototype is fairly simple, I think recreating the screens in a regular Figma file is often cleaner than trying to work around the limitations.

I'm curious if anyone has found a better workflow though, because it would be really useful to keep the generated structure while being able to edit screens freely and connect them with prototype flows.
