upload a screenshot of your layers panel with that selection

If the selection is of the group thats why you alignment doesn’t work.
Text aligns itself first to the Text Box, the size of the text box can be explicitly set and if the text has center alignment it will center its content relative to the size of the box
TLDR: Ungroup your text and control the Text Box directly
