Looking for OOTB capability or reliable way to extract live webpage content into Figma (Tried builder.io/html.to.design)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a project where I need to extract content (text, images, and layout) from live webpages and bring them directly into Figma as editable assets.

We tried using a few popular third-party plugins like Builder.io and html.to.design, as well as various Chrome extensions. However, we found them to be unreliable for our needs—they often break the page layouts, fail on complex CSS grids/JavaScript, or generate incredibly messy, unorganized layer structures that take too much time to clean up.

I wanted to ask the community:

  1. Is there any native, Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) capability in Figma (or via Figma’s developer API) that allows for cleaner, structured web content extraction?
  2. Are there any enterprise-grade workflows, widgets, or lesser-known plugins that handle live web-to-Figma migrations smoothly without breaking the visual hierarchy?
  3. How are other teams handling the import of live web context into Figma for redesigns or audits?

Any advice, or tool recommendations would be highly appreciated!

In our experience, there isn't a native Figma feature or API that can accurately import a live webpage into fully editable Figma layers while preserving the layout, styling, and hierarchy. The Figma API is primarily designed for creating and manipulating Figma documents, not translating HTML/CSS into clean design files.

We've also tested tools like Builder.io and html.to.design and ran into similar issues with complex layouts and disorganized layer structures.

For redesigns and audits, we've found that the most reliable workflow is to capture the visual reference (or recreate key sections), then rebuild the components in Figma using design system elements. It takes a bit more effort upfront, but the resulting file is much cleaner, easier to maintain, and far better for collaboration.

If anyone has found an enterprise-grade solution that produces clean, editable Figma files from live websites with good support for modern CSS and JavaScript, I'd be very interested to hear about it as well.

The closest option is the Figma Chrome extension, which captures full pages or selected elements and pastes them into Figma as editable layers with your file's variables attached.

Please note this is still in beta. It's definitely worth testing on your actual pages to see if it meets your needs, though!
