Issue creating a variable to be used in theming as a linear gradient instead of a solid hex.

I am using theming.  I am creating a theme for each one of my brands.  One of my brands site background color is not a solid hex, however it is a linear gradient.  I am not seeing any way to do that within the variables.  Is that possible?
