My educational account has expired, and my files are now in view-only mode. Is it safe to leave them there for storage? I plan to use my free account for editing and designing, but copying everything over would be too much. Is there any risk of losing access to view or copy my files in the future?

For now, yes it is. But if terms get updated and you don’t act with the notice that Figma usually gives before updates you might get affected. So make sure to check your associated emails if things changed.
