Hey folks, I need a little help. I’ve been working in Figma for two years and have never once gotten Smart Animate to. Y’know.

Work.

At all.

So I need a little help. I’ve got all my layers named the same, in the same order. Is there something else I should be looking for?

Each instance has its own name because, well, it has to. I did try naming them Step1, Step2, Step3 and that got me nowhere.

Inside each instance:

Here are the first three to give a sense for transitions

Banner default state with full bleed image and visible navigation
Navigation disappears and Image shrinks and moves left, filling half the screen.

card moves into open right space, image stays in place and navigation stays hidden

Is it the nested components causing me issues? I know Figma plays nicely with nesting about… 50% of the time historically, but seemingly better lately. So that’s good! But who knows, maybe smart animate still doesn’t like it.

Also, please let me know if I need to share a prototype link. I’m trying to avoid it so I’m not throwing unfinished client work all around who knows where, but I can make some changes to make it feasible.

Can you explain more of the issue, I’ve read a lot of the background but the issue seems to be missing 😅

@Raphael_M Oh jeez, you’re right, I totally talked around it.

My dilemma is that my component instances are set to smart animate, but they dissolve instead. I’ve learned that means something’s wrong with how I’ve set it up, but I can’t suss what I’ve done wrong. I believe I’ve got the layer order and names all matched up across instances, so I wonder if I’m missing something obvious. Like, maybe nested components can create conflicts, or maybe the name for each instance has to be relatively similar, too… I’m just not sure 🥲

Well, the smart animate does what you did on the layer for the next frame so I think we would need to know how you did it. Without context all I see is you've hidden the navigation block layer so based on it, it'll just remove it on next screen by dissolving it since it's smart animate with transition duration.

I think if you can send a video of how you want it to be animated, I can try helping you without going through your file.
