Hi Figma Support,

I’m now facing a problem that our company’s account was registered with an gmail address and now we try to transfer the account and the file to another email address (with our company domain).
I would like to know that after I let one team member’s account become the admin, does that mean I can remove the original account?  Plus, the original address owned the annual full seat, would it be possible that i can change another account to the annual full seat from the monthly full seat?
Would it be risky that I just delete the original account? Will I loose all my files >< Thanks for your helping~!

Hey @Alyssa CC, thanks for reaching out! Since you already have access to both accounts here, this is a pretty manageable process.

Here's how it breaks down:

1. Making your teammate an admin

On the Professional plan, there's no separate "owner" role like on the Organization or Enterprise plans. Team members are set as admin, editor, or viewer, and any admin can manage team settings, members, and billing. So:

  1. From the file browser, select All folders in the left sidebar
  2. Click the down arrow next to your team name and select View members
  3. Find the new (company domain) account's permissions dropdown and select Grant admin access

A team always needs at least one admin, so once your teammate is set up this way, the team stays fully intact and accessible either way. For the full rundown: Transfer ownership of a team.

2. Transfer file and folder ownership first

Being made admin doesn't automatically make someone the owner of files or folders you personally created. That's tracked separately. Before deleting anything, we'd recommend manually transferring ownership of anything you own to the new account:

  • Files: open the Share modal → change the collaborator's permission to Owner → confirm Transfer ownership
  • Folders (and everything inside): same steps, from the folder's Share modal

More detail here: Transfer ownership of files or folders.

If you skip this step: folders you own become "ownerless" but stay fully accessible, and any admin can claim them. Files you own work similarly, they stay accessible to anyone who already had access, they just can't be formally claimed by someone else. Either way, you won't lose access to your work, but transferring ownership yourself first keeps things tidier.

3. Before you actually delete the account

Since your original account is on a paid Professional plan, it's worth making sure your team's billing details are settled first, so your collaborators don't lose access. The full pre-deletion checklist (exporting anything you need, confirming ownership is transferred, etc.) is laid out in Delete your Figma account.

4. On moving the annual Full seat

This one's account-specific, so it's best confirmed by our support team directly rather than here on the forum. Generally, freeing up an existing seat (rather than creating a brand-new one) is how teams typically keep a seat on its original annual billing when reassigning it to someone else, but the exact outcome depends on your team's setup, so I'd recommend submitting a request through our Support Hub so our team can confirm against your account.

Hope this gives you a clear path forward! Let us know if anything comes up as you go through the steps.
