How to close the previous overlay?

Hi folks.

Imagine there’s a Navigation drawer which opens in an overlay.
Now you pick an item from the menu and it opens a dialog - obviously in another overlay.
Now, how to close the previous overlay?

Here is a screencast, showing that the underlying overlay with Navigation drawer doesn’t get closed.
