Hey @onioncong, thanks for the follow-up!

On Figma for Education organizations, seat type isn't something you can change from your own account. It's managed by your organization's admin (usually your teacher, or whoever manages your school or district's Figma account).

The best way to get this changed, ask your Figma organization admin to head to the Admin tab, open the People tab, find your name, and change your seat type from View to Dev or Full. Since Education organizations are free, there's no cost tied to this. It's simply about what seat your admin has assigned you.

If you're not sure who manages your account, your school or district's IT contact should be able to point you to the right person.

Once you're on a Dev or Full seat, you'll get the full Education-plan MCP allowance I mentioned earlier: up to 200 calls a day, with a 10-per-minute cap, instead of the 6-per-month limit that comes with a View seat.

For more on seat management for Education organizations, take a look at Configure your Figma Education organization.

Let me know how it goes!

Hey @onioncong, thanks for reaching out!

Figma's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server rate limits are based on plan and seat type. For Education plan accounts (K-12 included), here's what applies:

  1. View or Collab seat: up to 6 tool calls per month
  2. Dev or Full seat: up to 200 tool calls per day, with a per-minute cap of 10 calls

So as long as your K-12 account has a Dev or Full seat, you'll get the higher daily allowance rather than the 6/month cap.

A couple of extra details that might help:

  • A few tools  whoami, add_code_connect_map, and generate_figma_design  don't count against these limits at all.
  • Figma reserves the right to adjust rate limits over time, so the Rate limits & access page in our developer docs is the best place to confirm the most current numbers.

If you want to double check which seat you're on, you can ask your MCP client to run the whoami tool. It's exempt from the limit and will confirm your plan and seat type directly.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions!
