I’m curious about how other designers handle font variations in Figma. Do you usually use variable fonts, or do you prefer separate font weights and styles?
It would be great to have more flexible options for managing font variations directly in Figma, especially when working on responsive websites and UI designs.
I've switched mostly to variable fonts for anything responsive — saves a ton of file size and lets me fine-tune weight per breakpoint instead of snapping between fixed styles. Still keep static weights around for brand/logo work where I want zero ambiguity in the final export though.
Biggest pain point for me in Figma is testing multiple axes together (like optical size + weight) — works, but the UI could be smoother. Curious if others have found good workarounds for that.
