How Do I separate a single vector layer so that I can color certain parts differently?

Hi. I’m new to Figma.

I just turned an image into a vector using image tracer. The problem is that its one uniform color and I want to color separate parts differently. How do I do that?

You can use a plugin called Split Vectors to do it automatically or just select a region (click on it), then Cmd/Ctrl + C, Esc, Cmd/Ctrl + V (paste it on a new layer in the same place).

Fine this far! But how do we make these layers separate vectors so that I can give them individually new strokes?
