How Can I Verify My Students for Figma Education or Professional Access as an Admin?

Hello Figma Community,

I’m an admin managing a design education program, and I’d like to verify my students for Figma’s Education or Professional access. I want to ensure they receive the proper benefits and workspace permissions under our institution’s account.

Could someone please guide me through:

  • The process for verifying student accounts under an institutional domain or admin panel.

  • Whether verification needs to be done individually or can be approved in bulk.

  • Any specific documentation or eligibility criteria required from the admin’s side.

I want to streamline onboarding so students can easily collaborate within the professional workspace without manual intervention for each request.

Appreciate any insights or official documentation links that could help clarify this process.

Thank you,
Usama Aslam

Hey @Usama Aslam , thanks for reaching out on the Figma Forum!
I checked on our end, and it looks like you’re an educator at a university. The application process depends on the type of classroom you’re in. For Higher Education, each student needs to complete verification individually.
They can apply directly at figma.com/education/apply , using their school-issued email address, select Higher ed for institution type and complete the SheerID verification process.

Access lasts for one year. If they’re still students (or you’re still teaching) after that, they’ll need to reapply to renew their Education status.

For more details, please check our guide: Figma for Education

Hope this clarifies!

our institute doesn’t provide official email addresses — neither for teachers nor for students.

In this case, how can we verify our eligibility for Figma Education?

  • Is there an alternative method of verification (e.g., uploading documents, ID cards, or institute letters)?

Hey Usama, sorry for the late reply. I was away.

Just a quick reminder: Figma for Education can’t verify accounts directly. All verifications must go through SheerID.

I can confirm that Figma only requires a school email address if your school issues one to staff or students. If that’s not the case as you mentioned, please contact SheerID directly and explain your situation here: https://support.sheerid.com/en-US/help-center/contact-form.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm a teacher and I'm registered with Figma Education. My profile has been approved, now I need to register my students. When they log in with their credentials and receive the verification email in their inbox, they're redirected to an error screen instead of the Sheer ID interface. I can't proceed with my lesson plan due to this bug. I've read on various blogs that this is a recurring issue, and I've already contacted Sheer ID but haven't received any response.
It's urgent.
Thank you.

Hey @Bottini Barbara — welcome to Figma Forum, I’m glad we connected. I’m sorry you and your students are running into that error, especially when it’s impacting an active lesson plan.

I’ve gone ahead and raised your report internally and flagged it with our Education Team so they can take a closer look alongside SheerID. Your case number is: 1611859, and they’ll reach out directly to the email associated with your Figma account as soon as there’s an update to share.

Thank you for your patience. We’ll work with SheerID to make sure this gets sorted out as quickly as possible.

Hi @Tom Reem

Thank you for your reply. Your colleague Maya replied that my students must select "higher school" to access the sheer ID verification, and that's what happened. However, my students are minors, being in their second year of high school, and the system won't let them access the verification because obviously, higher school requires adults over 16. Now I'm really desperate; I can't continue with my classes.
