Hover effect w mask?

I have this button. 

I want to have a hover effect where a blue color slides in from the right.
I can make it with a mask in the background, but then it does not follow the with of the button if eg the copy becomes longer. - so I have to manually edit the size of the hover effect. 

Anyone got a great solution
