Holding ALT key when mouse drag does not duplicate selection in Chrome

I noticed in this tutorial, the shortcut is mentioned for MacOS and Windows but not for Linux:

• Mac : While holding Option, click and drag
• Windows: While holding Alt, click and drag

I don’t have access to a Linux machine, so I’ll check internally to see if we have any information about this.
If anyone from our community has additional insight on this, please feel free to share here.

Yup, I am aware of the shortcuts in Mac too. But I am not able to isolate if this problem is a browser issue, or general Linux issue, or Gnome (Desktop Environment for Linux) issue. But I did not had any issues on previous Gnome 44 on the same browser MS Edge.

Appreciate if someone in the community who has Linux can verify if problem exists too.

Hi, my Chrome and MS Edge are on version 128.

I have tested this on Firefox v129 on my Linux, and I am able to use the ALT-mouse-drag to copy a layer.

Based on the link provided in the previous post, the requirements for Linux and Chrome are as follows:

• Minimum OS requirements for Linux: Any Linux OS that supports the browsers mentioned in the minimum browser requirements
• Minimum browser requirements for Chrome: Chrome 99 or later

If you are experiencing an issue with a shortcut for duplicate in your Chrome browser running on Linux, could you please confirm if your Linux (Fedora 40) supports Chrome 128?

I tried searching for this information, but I couldn’t find relevant details. Could you please let us know if there is a link or any way to check the status of the support?

Yes - Fedora 40 officially supports Chrome 128. But further checking online reveals some critical bugs with it, however not within my expertise and knowledge if the issues are related to this.

Since i have a workaround using FireFox, we can close this.

Would you mind sharing the workaround you found for Firefox?

I’m using Linux Mint 21.3, with the built-in Firefox (which shows as v131.0.3), and when I try to ALT+Drag to duplicate, the actual browser window gets dragged around.

Hi I just tried again today on the Firefox and unfortunately it doesn’t work now.

I am using Firefox on flatpak 131.0.3 (64-bit) on Fedora 40, Gnome 46.

My current workaround is using CTRL-D to duplicate the layer or artboard.

Not sure if this would help. I’m a Linux Mint user and for me ALT + drag moves the entrire window by default, which consequently eliminates the expected Figma duplicate functionality.

To stop this, I had to go to my system’s Windows setting, then in ther the Behaviour tab where I set Special key to move and resize windows to Disabled. That solved it for me.
