High Quality Images (3000x2000) Imported into Figma Becomes Low Quality

This seems to only occur for bigger sizes like 3000x2000.

I tried using the 'Import big images' plugin but that just makes the images look like a broken TV screen. I allowed extract canvas data for Figma, so I believe the availability of canvas data shouldn't be an issue.

It’s not low quality because its a preview, because when export it, it’s still low quality.

I’ve tried increasing the export size multiplier. It didn’t solve the issue.

Scaling the image doesn't solve it either.

Hey @Seb D'Ssssnake, thanks for reaching out!

Sorry you're running into this, a few things to try that should help narrow this down:

  1. Check the asset size limit isn't the cause. Figma automatically scales down any image/video larger than 4096 x 4096 pixels. A 3000x2000 image shouldn't be affected by that, but worth ruling out. More here: Add images and videos to designs.
  2. Check your Image resampling setting. In the Export panel, open Advanced export settings and see whether Image resampling is set to Detailed or Basic. These use different methods (bicubic vs. nearest neighbor) and can affect perceived quality differently depending on the image. If you haven't tried switching it, that's worth testing both ways. More here: Export formats and settings.
  3. Try uploading without the "Import big images" plugin. Since that's a community-built plugin rather than something we maintain, we can't troubleshoot its specific behavior. Testing with Figma's native upload (drag-and-drop, or the color picker's Image fill) will help confirm whether the issue is on Figma's side.
  4. Test in a blank file. Paste just the image on its own, with nothing else in the file, to see if it still looks degraded without any other layers or effects involved.
  5. What’s your browser and OS (e.g., Chrome on Windows, Safari on Mac).

If none of the above resolves it, our Customer Support team can take a closer look at your actual file directly. You can reach them through our Support Hub and share the image there for further investigation.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi,

I’m using Firefox on Windows 11. It turns out images are imported at a lower quality on Firefox. When I switched to Chrome, the issue was fixed.

Thanks a lot for the help!
