I really need help on working around Connected Project not allowing between Org/Pro with same email domain. If someone have experience on solving this it would be a great help. Our project is being delayed and we really need a solution.

  1. Four company with same work email domain (because same holding company)
  2. All teams have a figma Org/Pro that was made with work email domain.
  3. Our company has Design System Library we use among our internal teams.
  4. We have a mega project, where we need to share this library with other 3 companies.
  5. We are attempting to have connected projects for each company, and allow our library usage.
  6. Figma won’t allow connected project due to same email domain. (below error)
"Connecting team owner's email domain cannot match your organization's email domain"

We tried the other company make an ID with gmail domain an admin, and create a team and become an owner of that team. This however did not work. Can anyone suggest a different approach? Or am I not doing this work around correctly?

We cannot remove our work email domain from the domain capture, for I believe this will reset permissions for files and teams. Since we have so hundreds of people with specific settings given, and we don’t have a separate log of it, so we cannot re-allocate them.

Also, does anyone know what ‘organization’s email domain’ mean? I am assuming that this is the owner of the Org, which probably the ID that first used to create the org.

I am struggling this issue for two weeks with pressure from other teams. I would greatly appreciate help from the community, is someone can give some tips.

Hi @YoonKimDesign, thanks for reaching out and apologies for the delayed reply!

We normally are not able to help out with Account Management here on the forum, so I’m glad to see that you reached out to our support team directly on ticket #1470506.

Please continue to work with the team there, if you have any further questions.

"This is a tricky one—the domain capture restriction is meant to prevent exactly this scenario, but you might be able to work around it by having the external teams create entirely separate Figma orgs using personal email domains (like Gmail) as owners, then inviting work emails as members (not admins/owners) to those teams, which should bypass the domain matching issue. Alternatively, reach out to Figma Enterprise support directly—they sometimes have workarounds or can temporarily adjust domain settings for legitimate use cases like yours where multiple entities share a parent company domain. Good luck! 🎨🔧"

Thanks, that worked. However, I now see that I can only connect three projects. I didn’t expect this. Why is there a limitation on how many projects can be connected? I work with an external development department and we have many projects that we collaborate on.
