The home page loads and that’s it. It allows me to create a file from scratch, but after I close it I can no longer access it. Endless loading and nothing more. Also, old projects are not opened.

Sorry to hear you are having issue to launch Figma on your Mac desktop!
As a workaround can you please try to clear out the cache?
Use the Terminal app to clear the cache.
rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma/"{Desktop,DesktopProfile}Then uninstall and re-install Figma? (https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/5601429983767-Guide-to-the-Figma-desktop-app#h_01HE5QD60EJ3SVSDJAVMFVXQF1)
