So, I am trying new motion features and wanted to try to move shapes around the circle. But noticed that path animation and pen tool are greyed out. Are these features going to be added later or am I doing something wrong? Do I need some certain pluging for them to work?

Hey @Nadya_artj 👋 Thanks for flagging this!

To dig in, could you share a couple of things here in the thread first?

  • A screen recording of the issue so we can see exactly what's happening
  • Your system details: app/browser, OS, and Figma version

That'll give us more info. Thanks! — Jaycee

Thanks for the screen recording, @Nadya_artj - very helpful! Stepping in for @Jaycee Lewis.

I did a bit of testing and saw the same as you with both the pen tool and the “Path” preset animation option. I asked the team and the Path option is meant to be used with vectors created with the Brush or Pencil tool in Draw mode rather than shapes. The animation follows the path from the start to the finish, essentially “drawing” it in. I’ve made and attached a quick screen recording so you can see it in action.

I created a Figma plugin called Motion Path that lets you select an object and a path, then automatically generates the animation in Figma Motion for you.

The plugin includes 300+ ready-to-use examples covering the most common animation use cases.
