Hi!

Thanks to my university I have had access to figma and have used it a lot over the degree of ideation, designs and prototypes. I will be graduating this summer so will lose access to the account and wondered if there is anyway to export these files so I can keep my work? Ideally exporting as a file I can keep secure on a USB but if there is any other way that’d be great too! I just don’t want to lose my work!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!!!

Hey @minamomo , Celine from Figma here! Great question, and totally understand wanting to keep your work safe!

You have a couple of good options before you lose access:

  1. Transfer your files to a personal account
Before losing access, I'd recommend creating a free personal Figma account (Starter plan, if you don’t already have one) and duplicating your files into drafts. Then move or share those files to your personal account.

Please note in the Starter plan, you’ll still have access to all your files and projects, just within the limits of the Starter plan. You can check all the details in this Help center Article here.
Also, if you'd like to continue using Figma with your current files and don't want to deal with Starter plan limitations, you might want to consider upgrading to a Professional plan instead.
  1. Save a local backup (.fig file)
You can also export your entire Figma file as a .fig file by going to Main menu → File → Save local copy. This creates a full copy of your file that you can re-import into Figma later if needed. It’s especially useful for backing up your work or moving files between accounts or teams. For more information in this article: Save a local copy of files

  2. Export visuals (optional backup)
If you want offline copies (e.g. on a USB), you can export specific frames directly from Figma as PNG, JPG, SVG, or PDF, but please note it’s not editable. Just select the frames you want > click the ‘+’ plus in the Export section in the right panel > choose your format and export. More information in this article: Export from Figma Design.

I'd suggest doing this sooner rather than later, just to be safe. Hope this helps and good luck with your graduation!
