Export multi pages PDF doesn't work anymore

romuald

In the past, there was a way to export selected framers into a single PDF, as described here:

Since a recent update, this doesn’t anymore. And I can’t figure out how to make it. Any idea?

I figured out how to reproduce the case, and how to avoid it.

Let’s say you have:

  • Frame A
    • Frame A1
    • Frame A2
  1. Select A1 and A2
  2. File → Export Frames to PDF

→ you get a single PDF with a single page, with the 2 frames within that page

Now, move A1 and A2 out of Frame A. Select A1 and A2, and Redo the same export.

→ You get a PDF with 2 pages.

Hey Romuald,

If you're looking to export multiple frames into a single PDF, you can do that by heading to the Figma logo in the top-left corner of your file, then selecting File > Export frames to PDF...

It is working on my end, please give it a try and let me know how it goes!

That’s exactly what I was aware of, but tested with Figma Beta and Figma Upstream, and it doesn’t work anymore. My 2 frames are exported in a single PDF, side by side, and not in a multi-pages PDF.

Thanks for the clarification! This looks odd, I just tested it in Figma Beta and it seems to be working as expected.

Could you try force-quitting and restarting the app to see if that helps?
In the meantime, I’d recommend using the regular Figma desktop or browser app (non-Beta) to export your frames — multi-page PDFs should still generate correctly there.

If the issue continues, feel free to reach out to our support team with a quick screen recording by filling out this form. Our technical team will be able to take a closer look on your end. Thank you!

I’ve tried with another file, and it works as expected. So, I would say the problem comes from the 2 frames I’m trying to export...pretty strange.

Thanks for the update, that’s helpful to know!

Yes, it’s strange. It does sound like something specific in those two frames might be causing the issue. If it only affects this specific file, as a workaround, you can try to duplicate the problematic frames into a new file, then try exporting them from there.

If the issue keeps happening, feel also free to share the file (and invite support-share@figma.com with "can edit" permission) with support team for a deeper look into your file via this form. They can try to replicate it and investigate further.

Great to hear you found the fix! Yes, that’s expected. Since Frame A1 and Frame A2 are nested within Frame A, exporting will generate a single-page PDF of the parent frame. Thanks for sharing!
