When i click export, there used to be some ‘Export as…’ options, one of these being to .AI
I no longer get these options, just export to PDF

'Export as' option missing? Can't export to .AI

There never was an option to export as .ai — usually you export SVG and open it with Illustrator. You can even simply copy as SVG and paste it in Ai.
