occasionally I want to give access to members of my membership or to customers. This is usually for simple things like voting on a Figjam board.

Do I really have to pay 5 Dollars for each member I give access to a single board for a short moment?

But if all you need is voting or commenting, a guest/viewer link usually works fine — no need to pay $5 per person for just a few hours.
