Hi, I’m really new in using figma. Usually our company are using adobe XD, then we plan to change to figma. Both of us don’t expose too much with figma, especially frame and rectangle.

What is the different between them? Is using frame for everything such as button, card, etc is following the industry standard? Is that so, it’ll be the frame on the frame right, since it’s different from XD that use artboards is specific for the website layout.

Also, anything do I need to know else about figma?

Hey!

Dave here from Figma Community Support, firstly, welcome to Figma 🙂

Great question, and you’re definitely not alone here. In simple terms, a rectangle is just a basic shape. You’d use it for things like backgrounds, colours, or simple visual elements. A frame, on the other hand, is more like a smart container. It can hold other layers like text, images, and buttons, and comes with extra layout and resizing capabilities.

In short: rectangle = shape, frame = structure and layout.

Also, feel free to check out our YouTube channel, there are loads of walkthrough videos that show you around Figma if you get stuck: https://www.youtube.com/@Figma , We also have a really helpful community forum monitored by Figma Community Support and lots of experienced users who are always happy to help.
