I'm currently working on the UX and interface design for a sleep calculator.
One challenge I've encountered is finding the right balance between simplicity and usefulness. Users typically want an answer quickly, but there is often additional information that can help them understand sleep cycles, recommended sleep durations, and how different schedules affect rest.
Some questions I've been thinking about:
• How much educational content should appear alongside a calculator?
• Should the primary action be focused on bedtime recommendations or wake-up time recommendations?
• What's the best way to present multiple results without overwhelming users?
• How can trust and credibility be communicated through design alone?
My current approach is to:
- Keep the calculator as the primary focus.
- Reduce unnecessary inputs.
- Use plain language instead of technical terminology.
- Prioritize mobile usability.
- Surface results immediately with minimal friction.
