Question

Design / Prototype vs Iteration

Was hoping for some clarity in regards to how credit consumption works with an initial prototype design prompt (20 credits) vs an iteration prompt to refine the result?
Similarly, how does the credit consumption work with multi-faceted refinement/iteration prompts vs single task based refinements?

Thanks

Hi @Carl Hadaway, thanks for reaching out!

I completely understand wanting more clarity here. The key thing to know is that Figma uses an agentic AI system, so credit usage isn’t fixed per prompt and can vary depending on what you’re trying to accomplish.

A few factors that can impact credit consumption:

  • Model used: More advanced models (like Claude Opus 4.6) generally use more credits than the default model
  • Task complexity: More complex or multi-step requests (like generating a prototype vs. making a small refinement) may use more credits
  • Amount of context: Including additional inputs (such as files or design libraries) can improve results, but may also increase usage

In practice, both an initial generation and follow-up refinements will consume credits, but not necessarily the same amount. Similarly, a multi-faceted refinement may use more credits than a quick, focused tweak. I know that can feel a bit less predictable, but it’s because the system adapts to the scope of each request rather than charging a flat rate.
