Hi team 👋,
I’m looking for clarification on how API rate limits differ between OAuth-based apps and personal access tokens.
While testing with a personal access token on the Starter plan, I noticed that the available rate limit is quite low. I wanted to understand whether the same rate limits apply when using an OAuth app, or if OAuth apps are subject to a different (potentially higher) quota.
The documentation doesn’t clearly call this out, and I’ve seen some unofficial mentions suggesting that OAuth apps may have higher limits—but I couldn’t find any official confirmation.
Could you please clarify:
-
Whether a user has the same rate limit by using OAuth apps and personal access token?
-
If they differ, how OAuth app rate limits are calculated?
Thanks in advance for the clarification!
