Can't find the figma account / owner access to my own files

Hey Figma team/user community,

I have this file that I created on my Figma account that lists me as the owner, I still can’t seem to have edit access? I don’t know if it’s another alternative account that created it but I’ve tried a few different emails. Is there a way to find out the true owner email address for the figma account that has access?

Am I missing something obvious? This is the only file I can’t access.

Hi @Akshay Gite — welcome to Figma Forum, and sorry you’re having trouble tracking down your file. Thanks for already checking whether it might be tied to another email address — that’s helpful to know. Let’s try to narrow this down a bit more together.

Could you share a little more about what you’re seeing?

  • You mentioned having the file URL — when you try to open it, what exactly happens? Are you seeing an error message, or does it just fail to load?
  • If you haven’t already, try switching between teams in the file browser to see if the file appears there: Guide to the file browser → Your sidebar.
  • It’s also worth checking with any collaborators who previously had access to the file to see if they’re still able to open it and re-share access with you.

If you’re still not able to locate the file after trying those steps, let us know the following (if you can), and we can escalate this for a deeper look with the Product Support team:

  1. File name
  2. File URL

Thanks for your patience while we dig into this — happy to keep working through it with you. 🙏🏻

Hey Tom,

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately no other collaborators have edit access or “owner” access. As you can see, I’m logged in but only have view access as a separate entity (with a similar profile thumbnail “A” colour).
Attaching a screenshot of how it looks.

File Name: PortfolioPrototype - Akshay Gite
File URL:

Hey @Akshay Gite — thanks so much for taking the time to dig into this further and for confirming those details. That extra context is really helpful. 🙏🏻

I’m not able to access or share account-specific information here in the public forum, but I do want to make sure this gets sorted out as quickly as possible. I’ve gone ahead and opened a ticket on your behalf with our Product Support team for a deeper look. Your case number is: 1722913, and they’ll reach out as soon as they’ve had a chance to review what’s going on.

We’ll stick with you as this gets sorted out. Please keep an eye on the email address associated with your Figma account for next steps, and let us know here if anything changes on your side.
