Can I transfer my Figma Education benefits to my personal account?

Hi,

I currently have two Figma accounts:

  • My personal account, where I have all of my projects.
  • A second account using my university email, which has the Figma Education plan.

I'd like to use the Education benefits on my personal account instead.

Is there any way to transfer my Education status to my personal account?

Also, if transferring isn't possible, can I change the email address on my Education account to my personal email and then apply for Figma Education again using my university email without any issues? Or would I permanently lose my Education benefits?

What would be the recommended approach in this situation?

I can clarify both parts of this for you:

  1. Transferring Education status to your personal account — this isn't something we're able to do. Education status is tied to the specific account verified with your school email, and it can't be moved to a separate account. Instead, the recommended approach is the other direction: transfer your projects or team from your personal account into your education account, so everything lives in one place.
     
  2. Changing the email on your education account, then reapplying separately — worth knowing that your education status is tied to the email address you verified with. If you update that account's email away from your university address, the education status gets revoked right away. From there, reapplying for Education status on an account using your university email again would go through the standard verification process (via SheerID for higher ed), so it's not guaranteed to be instant or issue-free, verification limits can sometimes come into play.

Given that, your cleanest path is really option 1: keep your Education status where it's verified, and move your files over to that account instead. Here's the relevant guide on how that works: Transfer a project or team to a different account.
