We used to have Minimize/Expand UI menu options on the Figma desktop app. Why was this removed? It's most flexible when there are options we can customize with other keyboard shortcuts. Every user is different, and customization maximizes productivity.

Was there a specific reason this was removed? Can this menu option be brought back? It's currently present in the Figma menu inside the web app but not in the desktop menu options. This makes it impossible to have access to that function and assign other keyboard shortcuts.

Please bring this back to regain user customization. Having a web-based app already has its limitations, and the little custom things that can actually be accessible are being removed. :(

@Figma_Desktop

Hi @Max_M2 , Thank you for contacting us and sharing your feedback.

We offer a few options to minimize the UI when you require additional canvas area. And it's available in the desktop app too.

Could you check if these are the Minimize/Expand UI menu options you were thinking about?

  • Click the Minimize UI icon in the navigation panel.
  • Go to the “Actions” menu and pick “Minimize UI”.
  • Shortcut: hover over the Minimize UI icon to view the associated shortcut.

You can find more details in the "Minimize the UI" section of the Navigating UI3: Figma's new UI article.

We hope this provides the assistance you require.
Thank you again for reaching out.

Hi @Junko3 , thanks for getting back!

I was aware of those options, but for some reason the Minimize UI menu item had disappeared from the View menu in the desktop app. After resizing Figma's window it appeared somehow, which is great, and what I use so I can further customize it's keyboard shortcut. :)

I also see from your screenshot that the default shortcut in your case for the left panel Minimize UI icon is different from mine.

Thanks!
