I had one initial Figma file that held my variables and components, I decided to switch them to a new Figma file meant for my Design System. As I am creating/adjusting components in my new Figma file, I am seeing this “Used Variables” option under Layer to change between Light/Dark mode. I have searched EVERYWHERE and I cannot for the life of me figure out where it is coming from.

I have come to the conclusion this is a bug when moving components to a new Figma file. I come to this conclusion because if I add the initial Figma file as a Library in the new Figma file, the name changes from “Used Variables” to the name of the initial Figma file, as if those variables are still coming from the initial Figma file.

This is providing such an awful UX for myself and design team, almost to the point I either need to recreate my entire component library or switch from Figma. I have spent hours on this topic and decided to come here and ask for some help. I read all the other posts about this and people share Plugins that supposedly should help, but they don’t. I recommend someone from the Figma team to try this yourself and see what happens.

Please help 🙂
