Autolayout removes hug for text component but doesn't for another?

I have a mobile text element that when placed in an autolayout works as expected. If you add text the spacing is between the other elements is kept.

With the desktop version once placed in an autolayout the height hug is lost and I have to add it manually. It doesn’t make sense as it is doing the same thing as the mobile version.
