I’ve been avoiding Figma like the plague because I think it sucks. Sadly, I’m in a position where I have to use it…
That being said, is Figma’s auto layout stuff supposed to be correlated to flex/gird layout or something? I literally make zero sense is probably one of most asinine concepts I’ve come across in design in ages.

Auto-layout in its concept is the "Flexbox" for web development. There is a new support for Grid layout, but it is under beta version.
Where exactly not make sense for you? Do you want to accomplish a specific visual outcome?
