Applying gradient to a vector shape

Hello, 

Is there a way that I can convert this into a vector but keep the gradient color scheme? This mechanical gear is part of my company logo and I noticed after I converted the PNG into a vector image that it changed all the colors to black.  

I would appreciate any help I could get with this.
