annual Billing change and downgrade seats

Hi, Our Figma annual plan renews on April 21 and I want to downgrade 9 members from Full seats to Dev seats before the renewal date. I want to make sure I'm doing this in the right order to avoid any additional monthly billing or access issues.

My plan is to reassign each member individually on the Members page first, and then confirm the updated seat counts in the renewal dialog. Is this the correct approach, or should I adjust the seat counts in the renewal dialog first?

Also, when I downgrade a member from Full to Dev, does the change take effect immediately or only at the next billing cycle?

Thanks!

Hi @Federico Stampini — Celyn from Figma Community Support here.

Thanks for reaching out, happy to help!

Since you’re on an annual Professional plan, 30 days before your renewal, you’ll see a banner at the top of your Figma admin. From there, you can click “Review seats” to open a modal where you can confirm how many of each seat type you’d like for your next billing term.

From the modal, you can add or remove the number of seats by seat type to renew on your annual subscription.

Regarding your question on timing:

  • When you downgrade a member from Full to Dev, their access updates immediately based on the new seat type
  • Billing is tied to your billing term, the updated seat types will be reflected at your next renewal.

Hope this helps and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi, I'm hoping you can help clarify a billing issue we're seeing after making seat changes.

We had 20 Full annual seats and 3 Dev annual seats. We wanted to move 10 members from Full to Dev. Here's what we did:

  1. On the Members page, we manually changed 10 members from Full to Dev
  2. In the renewal modal, we reduced the Full annual seat count by 10 and added 10 Dev annual seats to reflect the change

After doing this, all 10 members who were moved from Full to Dev now appear as Monthly billing in the people table, even though we added the equivalent annual Dev seats in the renewal modal.

We expected them to show as Annual since we updated the renewal counts. Is this the expected behaviour and will it resolve automatically at renewal on April 21? Or is there a step we missed to make sure these members are on annual billing and not monthly?

Thanks!

@Celyn_L sorry to bother you, but could you confirm the message above followed the right protocol and we wont be charged 10 dev seats monthly?

Hi @Federico Stampini

I work closely with @Celyn_L and I understand your concern about this billing issue.

Unfortunately, for security and privacy reasons, we are unable to look into specific account and billing details here on the public forum.

To ensure our team can properly assist your account and address your concerns, I’ll go ahead and create a support ticket on your behalf. It seems your primary concern is confirming that you will not be charged for 10 monthly Dev seats, so I will escalate your inquiry to our specialists to get you a clear answer on that.

One of our specialists will contact you directly via ticket email to assist you further. Please continue all future communication through that dedicated ticket.
