Hello,

I was attempting to delete an old project, and accidentally deleted ALL OF MY FIGMA FILES - including an app high-fidelity wireframe design that is meant to go into production May 1. Is there any way these files still exist on the back end somewhere?? I would be more than happy to upgrade!

Please help!

AHHH! All good!

I just checked my email, and there is a link in my “team deleted” email to restore the team and all related files for 28 days after deletion.

We are good to go.

As a note, it is bizarre to me that deleting a team by default deletes all items that were seemingly not created under that team. And also bizarre there is no way to restore your team from within figma.com.

But it does not matter - the email had the magic link. Thank you SO MUCH for your responsiveness and being on the ball. Saved me from having an aneurysm.

Thank you,

Ben

Hey Ben51, Celine from the Figma Community Support team here, happy to assist! Sorry to hear this, especially with your production deadline coming up on May 1st!

The good news is that deleted files go to the Trash first before being permanently deleted. Here's what to do right away to restore a project:

  1. From the file browser, click Trash in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Projects tab and locate the project you want to restore.
  3. Right-click on the project and select Restore to recover them.

Just a heads up, restoring the project will also restore the project and all files belonging to the project for anyone who had access to it at the time it was moved to trash. Files that were moved to trash before the folder got moved to the trash will remain in the Files tab of the Trash section.

If the files are no longer in the Trash and were permanently deleted, unfortunately that action cannot be undone on our end. This action cannot be reversed. However, I'd recommend reaching out to our support team now given your May 1st deadline. They can look into your account and confirm what happened as quickly as possible if you still don’t manage to recover it.

To do that: go to the Support Hub / type "Report a bug" / click Start a chat and explain which project you have deleted. (Feel also free to let me know when you did it, I can flag internally for visibility) Thank you!

Hi Celine,

The files are no longer in the trash - I was attempting to remove an old Team form 2022-2023, and when I deleted the Team, it deleted every last one of my current files. My guess is that the Team was linked to my default settings for creating design files (which, to be honest, I would never have guessed, as there was never any prompt to select Team when creating new design files). But regardless of if this is a feature or a bug, my files are gone; trash is empty.

Thank you so much for your response. I’ve submitted the report and have a ticket number (#1865554). Please, let me know if there’s any other information I can submit to add more clarity to the situation.

Hey again, really relieved to hear everything’s restored, and thanks for confirming it was a team deletion (not a project)!

Just to clarify here: when a team is deleted in Figma, all files and projects within that team are deleted with it (so they are directly tied to the team). That said, I understand how that can feel unexpected depending on how things are organized.

For anyone who might run into this: when you delete a team, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a restore link. You can use that link within 28 days to restore the team along with any files and projects inside it. More details here: Restore a deleted team.

If you notice anything that doesn’t match this behavior, feel free to flag it within your case, we’ll be happy to take a closer look.

Thank you for your feedback, and glad this one worked out in time! (I’ve gone ahead and marked the thread as solved.)
