I have free access to figma through my university email. My university email will expire around 12 months from my graduation (12 month grace period). I will be graduating in mid-december.

Does that mean I’ll have access to figma till atleast the end of this year? I was planning to pay for a yearly subscription starting Jan 1 on my personal email acount. But I also dont want to risk losing my files that are currently on my Uni account.

Hey there! Celine from Figma here, happy to clarify this for you!

Your access to the Figma Education plan isn’t tied to how long your university keeps your email active. Instead, it lasts one full year from the date your Education verification was approved by SheerID.

So yes, you’ll keep your Figma Education access until the end of your current one-year verification period, even if you graduate mid-December.

A quick overview:

  • You'll keep EDU access for the remainder of your one-year verification period.

  • When the year ends: If you're still eligible, you can reapply. If not, your account will automatically downgrade to the free Starter plan.
Your files won’t be deleted, but Starter plan editing limits will apply (more details in our Downgrade plan guide)

  • About switching to a personal email & upgrading: That’s totally fine, and you won’t lose any files. Just keep in mind that EDU access doesn’t extend based on your school’s 12-month email grace period. And to keep editing your files on Starter Plan, you'll need to reorganize your files and projects so they are under those limits. Learn more about moving projects.

Hope this helps you plan ahead!
