Missing fonts when I have all the fonts installed

I’ve seen other posts about this issue but nothing seems to help or work. I keep getting Missing font icon in the Figma app (not browser) for fonts I already use in other Figma files (that do not show the same missing font) and that I have installed on my Mac.
Also when opening the missing font dialogue window there is no option to ‘replace the fonts’. This is an example of a simple ‘Arial’ font which is installed and used across many apps on my Mac. It just says ‘close’ but no option to replace.

Hey Micha, generally if you’re seeing this warning for a system font, this indicates that the font stored on your system is different from the one used in your file, possibly because another editor has an older version installed (perhaps on Windows?), or the system font was recently updated. Manage conflicting fonts and Manage missing fonts cover these kinds of font versioning issues in more detail.

You ‘should’ be able to select the matching values in the Missing fonts modal to clear the issue. The desktop app cache could do the trick. Could you try clearing the cache by following these steps:

  1. Quit the Figma desktop app
  2. Open Terminal.app and enter the following command: rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma/"{Desktop,DesktopProfile}
  3. Try opening the desktop app again

Hi there!
I’m having this same problem. I’ve installed new fonts and started a project - then, in the next day when I’ve opened Figma again I’ve got the missing fonts warning. Only me have access to the file.Even by reinstalling the fonts, closing Figma and reopening again, and even by clearing cache in terminal. Any idea what might be the issue?

Now, after this, I see the issue happening to all new fonts I have installed - I can’t see them in Figma.

Hey Celina,
Sorry to hear you are having issues, this looks odd! As you have installed the font on your computer and you are the only one who has access - or edit- to the file, you shouldn’t have the missing fonts warning. Can you also make sure either the Figma Daemon, Figma Font Helper, or Font Service is running on your computer’s activity monitor?

I was working in a few different files and Figma stopped pulling all my local fonts. Files are still on my computer. I didn’t do anything and it all of a sudden told me all my local fonts were gone in all my files.

I tried opening the terminal and using the command given above but that didn’t work.

The same thing happened to me!!

I have installed fonts on my computer, they have been working just fine all year and now just today they are all missing. I think there is a bug on Figma’s end with their latest update. Please fix!!! this is not a user error and I cannot fix on my end.

What worked for me was installing the fonts so that they show up under “All User Fonts” on Mac’s Font Book–as opposed to just in “My Fonts” or “All Fonts”. After you do this, restart Figma. Copy pasted method via ChatGPT:

To make fonts available to all users on a Mac, you’ll need to install them into the /Library/Fonts directory. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Find the Fonts: Locate the font files you want to install. These are usually .ttf or .otf files.
  2. Open Finder: Click on Finder in your dock to open a new Finder window.
  3. Go to the Folder: In the Finder menu at the top of the screen, click on Go and then Go to Folder....
  4. Type the Path: Enter /Library/Fonts into the window that pops up and hit Enter. This will take you to the system-wide Fonts folder.
  5. Install the Fonts: Drag and drop your font files from where they are currently saved into the /Library/Fonts folder.

By placing fonts in this folder, they will be accessible to all user accounts on your Mac. If you don’t have the necessary permissions to add fonts to this folder, you may be prompted to authenticate as an administrator.

Hey all, so after having this same issue for a while, I reached out to Figma’s support and Nancy quickly followed up with me and sent me a few solutions.

The solution that worked for me was to right click on the font, click “Show more options” and click “Install for all users” (if Windows 10, skip the “Show more options” part)

Same issue here. None of the suggested solutions help. Only restarting the machine seems to solve the issue, but only for a day or so. Even if I don’t close the files and come back to them the next day, fonts show up as missing, despite they’re in the Fonts folder, properly installed, showing up in other applications.

Since the fonts are already installed on your computer, you’ll want to check that you can see all of your fonts in your Font Book.

If you can see your fonts there, try clicking on the fonts that are missing in Figma then right-click to show the menu below:

From there, click “Validate Font” to see if this resolves your font issues. You can see more details in Apple’s Font Book User Guide below:

Thanks for the suggestion @dvaliao , I tried it but didn’t help. The fonts are validated but show up as missing in Figma (were available yesterday) and don’t show up in search within the app either.

Fixed this. Had same issue - worked one day and not the next. Local fonts were missing. Went to help and account>account settings>(scroll down)>Fonts

It said local fonts were not enabled and to enable it had a button to isnstall a Figma plugin which i did and the issue was immediately fixed.

Had to do it again today. Not too much trouble but seems like a bug if it’s happening every day.

Hi, I have the same problem.
Operating system: Windows 11
Figma desktop, current version
Font installed and showing everywhere, including Figma. After restarting the computer, the font is still installed, but Figma doesn’t see it. I have to reinstall the font for her to see it again.

The setting part from Lex5: Fonts - Download installer is not there at all.

I’ve got the same problem! 

I tested around, it is strange that even I uninstall a font, restart the figma, the uninstalled font is showing up in figma as “font installed by you”

 

Is it the problem related to font cache?

 

Wish this could be fixed, thanks!

Do you still have any text layers that still use the uninstalled font? If so, could you try switching them to a new font?
