hello! I am on a team which uses a copy/cut paste process to move components from one file to the next. The problem is sometimes links break and the designer has to relink.
Also, when updating one element of the component in a new file (via copy/cute paste) eventually the entire component has become fragmented and scattered throughout several files.
This makes it difficult to update projects easily or find the most current iteration.
To remedy this, I’ve suggested keeping a type of master component library that uses publishing of the component. The variants can then be transferred to new files and there is one source of truth for the master components. Also, when/if a master component should be moved Figma lets you ‘move to file’ and preserves all the links making copy/cut paste unnecessary.
I’d love for a few experienced designers to weigh in on this! Have you found publishing works better than a copy/cut paste aproach when moving/updating/iterating upon components?
