Question

Diactrical marks suddenly stopped rendering properly

cichecki

Hi guys,
I’m working on a file that I created months ago and suddenly today it stopped working properly. I work in polish and all the diactrical marks (ą, ę, ć etc.) in every place suddenly stopped rendering properly and are replaced by default font.
I tried restarting both Figma and my PC (Win 11), reinstalling fonts and Figma but nothing helps for now.
Any idea what’s going on and how to fix it? It’s quite an issue for me as I can’t generate proper graphics and suddenly I need to move back to Illustrator to get my work done…

Ok, so I realized it only happens in one file… If I copy this graphic to another project everything works fine. Any idea why is it happening?

Hey @cichecki, thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear this is happening!

This sounds like font fallback, which is a feature that will automatically insert characters using a different font that Figma provides, when you’re using a font that doesn’t support the current character.

If you want these special characters to look the same as the current font you’re using, you’ll need to make sure that you’re using a font that supports those characters you are inserting. Since you’re only having issues in a specific file, the answer is likely something with the fonts being used in the file.

Thanks for answer but that’s not the case.
As I wrote in the first post, this happened in file that I work for months now and everything was perfectly fine till this day - and I’m using the same font all the time.
This happened in 2 separate files that I have this font in use - they’re quite large (several pages with many graphics in all of them) so my only idea was that this might be the reason? Is there any reason of file capacity in Figma???
Cause when I copy this exact frame to new file the problem is gone - fonts look good, all characters render correctly.

Thanks for the additional context!

Since Figma is built on browser-based technologies, there’s an active memory limit of 2GB per browser tab that apply even when you’re using Figma’s desktop app.

From what you’ve described, it sounds like this occurs once the file reaches a certain memory threshold as a way to optimize performance.

Are you able to share the file with us? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Please use your Figma account email, include a link to the affected file(s), and share edit access with support-share@figma.com, so we can file a bug and take a closer look.

Hey @dvaliao

Any idea what’s up with this issue? I reported it 3 weeks ago, still didn’t get any response and I’m still experiencing this issue and it really mess up my work. I need to create new files for each design as all the new files start displaying corrupted fonts after few edits. It’s starting to be frustrating that there’s no answer…

Hey @cichecki, sorry for the delayed reply!

Our team has been experiencing higher volume than usual, but I can confirm that we received your files and have reported this bug to the team.

Currently, they are successfully seeing the diactrical marks when loading your file - for example, they see one in this text box specifically.

That said, it looks like you’re using a Google Font called Outfit. The team can indeed confirm from your file that it re-renders to fall back on a Google Font that still has Polish diacritics.

We assume that there’s been a change in the Google Fonts API Outfit font on our end that now omits Polish diacritics.

As a temporary workaround, can you try installing the Google Font - Outfit on your computer? Hopefully, it’ll take precedence over Figma’s current version. Please let us know if it helps!

Hi @dvaliao.

Sorry for late reply, I didn’t realize that you added some workaround when looking at your post first time. I’m constantly experiencing this issue and I need to create more and more working files as it doesn’t happen in new files for some time (but fonts end up getting corrupted in the end).
I’ve had Outfit font installed on my computer all the time so I don’t think it’s Google API problem… As mentioned in my first posts I tried reinstalling font and Figma itself but it didn’t help.

Well, I opened the file I send you first time and right now it works fine indeed… But in other files it still doesn’t work properly, for example this one: https://www.figma.com/design/F73V4Z4fRGLI65qShK67Lq/RE-1001-WWW-R1?node-id=418-2301&t=YnJCGrSy3YIsZV8G-1
Fonts render like this:

Hey @cichecki, thanks for following up!

Can you please share edit access to the file with support-share@figma.com? I’ll send this over to the team to take another look.

Ok, I shared edit access to new file that got corrupted just yesterday:

Figma – 26 Jun 24

It worked fine and suddenly it looks like below and it’s a small one, with just couple graphics in it.
